Staffing hours worked decline 2% year over year

September 09, 2022

Staffing hours worked for the week ended Sept. 3, were down 2% year over year and fell 4.2% from the previous week, according to the latest SIA | Bullhorn Staffing Indicator, released today. Despite a positive Jobs report for August 2022, SIA noted the jobs market is expected to slow as growth in the US economy moderates due to headwinds such as inflation and higher interest rates.

Week ending Sept. 3, 2022 Indexed value Year over year Week over week
US staffing 101 -2% -4.2%
Commercial staffing 87 -5% -3.9%
Professional staffing 132 +3% -4.9%

The SIA | Bullhorn Staffing Indicator measures hours worked. It comprises two sets of analyses: a year-over-year comparison showing how the most recent week compared to the same week 12 months previously and an indexed value that has been benchmarked against data from the week ended Jan. 19, 2019.

The full report on the SIA | Bullhorn Staffing Indicator, which provides additional information, is available online.
