June 14, 2023

Aya Healthcare acquired Flexwise Health, while Seneca Resources acquired New York-based IT staffing firm QED National. Other firms announcing acquisitions include ZRG Partners, Veritone and Bowman Consulting Group Ltd.

Aya Healthcare

Aya Healthcare, the second-largest staffing firm in the US according to SIA research, acquired Flexwise Health, which offers technology to forecast gaps in patient demand and staffing levels. Its aim is to assist hospitals in optimizing resource allocation and cost.

“We’re excited to offer Flexwise to help healthcare systems reduce labor costs by using the power of predictive analytics in their staffing processes,” Aya President and CEO Alan Braynin said. “We will continue to make significant investments into advanced technologies to drive greater efficiencies and superior operating results for our clients.”

Flexwise will be added to Aya’s suite of software solutions, which includes vendor management and float pool technology.

The American Hospital Association was an early investor in Flexwise along with several member organizations.

Seneca Resources

Seneca Resources acquired QED National, an IT staffing firm based in New York City. The deal closed May 26. It marks the first add-on acquisition completed by Seneca since private equity firm Caymus Equity acquired a majority stake in September 2022.

Seneca, based in Reston, Virginia, provides IT and engineering staffing.

The deal will strengthen Seneca’s platform by increasing its mix of IT consulting and cybersecurity solutions.

“Partnering with QED represents meaningful progress toward achieving our strategic objectives for Seneca in the first nine months of our investment,” said Blake Cummings, principal and investment lead at Caymus Equity. “We recognize the value of IT consulting expertise in today’s marketplace and are excited to leverage QED’s leading capabilities in this area as we continue to build the premier IT staffing and consulting business in the industry.”

Plans call for management to remain in place. In addition, Dustin Molter, the leader of QED’s operations, will join Seneca’s leadership team as managing director for the New York office. Molter was the seller of QED.

Terms of the transaction were not announced.

In addition to Seneca, Caymus Equity’s staffing experience includes a prior investment in Hospitality Staffing Solutions.

ZRG Partners

Executive search firm ZRG Partners acquired Helbling and Associates, an executive search firm based in Wexford, Pennsylvania, focused on real estate, facilities and construction.

Helbling was founded in 1992 by Tom Helbling.

“Our focus is always on our clients. What can a new acquisition add to our service offerings?” said Nate Frank, president of executive search at ZRG. “In the case of Helbling, it’s deep experience across aligned verticals in the real estate industry and a coast-to-coast record of excellence. We’re very happy to have them on board.”

Veritone Inc.

Veritone Inc., a developer of artificial intelligence software, closed its acquisition of Broadbean from CareerBuilder. Total consideration paid was $52 million in cash.

The workforce ecosystem deal was announced last month. Broadbean’s products and services include programmatic job advertising and software that enables users to search for candidates in their own databases.

The acquisition is expected to generate revenue of more than $35 million on an annualized basis, of which $30 million is subscription based.

Veritone reported the deal will strengthen its AI-driven human resources solutions suite, building on the company’s previous acquisition of PandoLogic.

“The lifeblood of AI is data,” Veritone President and CEO Ryan Steelberg said. “The combination of Broadbean’s data set of over 5 billion job advertising performance data points from its installed base of over 3,000 customers and 100 ATS partners and Veritone’s AI-enabled recruitment technology solutions positions Veritone to further enhance recruitment insights for customers and scale AI-driven enhancements across its business.”

Bowman Consulting Group Ltd.

Bowman Consulting Group Ltd. acquired Advanced Applied Engineering, which does business as Infrastructure Engineers.

Advanced Applied Engineering is based in Brea, California, and provides civil design, construction management, traffic engineering and other services, including staff augmentation for municipal and state agencies.

Bowman reported the acquisition will initially contribute approximately $10 million of annualized net service billing. Bowman provides professional engineering, planning, environmental and municipal services to cities and counties throughout Southern and Central California.
