West Virginia posted the highest unemployment rate among all states in September at 7.3%, according to data released today by the US Bureau of Labor Statistics. New Mexico and Nevada followed at 6.8% and 6.7% respectively.
The District of Columbia had a rate of 6.7%.
North Dakota posted the lowest unemployment rate in September at 2.8%, followed by Nebraska at 2.9%.
Thirty-seven states and the District of Columbia had unemployment rate decreases from August, six states had increases, and seven states had no change.
The national jobless rate was unchanged from August at 5.1% and was 0.8 percentage points lower than in September 2014.
