Seattle passes minimum wage for Uber and Lyft drivers, increases ride taxes (GeekWire)

November 26, 2019

The Seattle City Council passed legislation Monday that will establish a minimum wage for Uber Technologies Inc. (NYSE: UBER) and Lyft Inc. (NASDAQ: LYFT) drivers and raised per-ride taxes to pay for city programs, GeekWire reported. Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan plans to sign the legislation into law later this week. Details of the minimum wage for drivers, which will take effect July 1, are still being hammered out.

Durkan in September introduced Seattle’s “Fare Share” program, intended to extend the city’s worker protections to gig economy drivers.
