Report: Japan may disallow some temp jobs

March 22, 2010

The Japanese government is at work on legislation that would prohibit manufacturers from using staffing firms to fill short-term jobs, The Japan Times reported. The legislation would also disallow "registered workers" who are employed only when jobs are available, although some categories of workers would be exempt, such as interpreters, according to the report.

The Democratic Party of Japan hopes to have the Japanese Diet (Japan's legislature) approve the proposal before the end of June, according to the report.
