Randstad US, Target and UPS announce seasonal hiring plans

September 12, 2019

Holiday season temporary hiring plans are getting underway with Target Corp. and UPS hiring 230,000 between the two. Randstad US also announced seasonal hiring plans.

“Despite potential economic uncertainty ahead, consumers have remained confident and willing to spend this holiday season, which means more order fulfillment and customer service roles will be needed,” said Greg Dyer, president of commercial staffing in-house and enterprise strategic accounts at Randstad US.

Randstad US announced plans to hire for more than 17,000 seasonal jobs across the US ahead of the holiday season. The positions Randstad US is filling include a variety of jobs types and skills, but the majority are light industrial, warehouse support and customer service roles ranging in length from three to five months on average and paying in the range of $11 to $18 per hour. Recruitment and hiring will take place in the next few months.

Target plans to hire more than 130,000 seasonal workers for the upcoming holiday season; last year Target said it hired 120,000 team members at its stores and 7,500 at distribution and fulfillment centers — and 40% of seasonal hires remained at the company following the holiday season.

UPS announced this week it will hire some 100,000 seasonal employees for its annual increase in package volume that begins in November and continues through January.

UPS is hiring full-time and part-time seasonal positions, and it noted 35% of people hired for seasonal package handler jobs over the last three years were later hired in permanent positions.

Separately, Amazon.com announced it was planning Amazon Career Day on Sept. 17 to fill more than 30,000 full-time and part-time jobs at Amazon locations that included the company’s headquarters, tech hubs, datacenters and fulfillment centers.

Amazon.com also said it is hiring tens of thousands of seasonal roles for its operations network in the coming weeks to meet increased demand during the holiday season. These positions pay $15 per hour.
