Randstad CFO to step down, board nominates Unilever exec for role

November 10, 2017

Randstad CFO Robert Jan van de Kraats will step from that role at the world’s second-largest staffing firm on March 27, the company announced today. Nominated to take his place is Henry Schirmer, currently executive VP, finance, at Unilever Europe. The nomination is subject to shareholder appointment.

“I am immensely proud and grateful to have had the opportunity to work with such a great and committed Randstad team,” van de Kraats said. “Now, with the focus clearly set on the ‘Tech and Touch’ strategy, I am very pleased to hand over my responsibilities to Henry in whom I have the fullest confidence.”

Van de Kraats joined Randstad in 2001 as CFO and member of the company’s executive board. He was appointed vice chairman of the executive board in 2006, and the company reported he played an instrumental role in its expansion both through organic growth and acquisitions such as the acquisitions of Vedior in 2008 and Monster last year.

After handing over the reins to Schirmer, van de Kraats will focus on his operational responsibilities until the end of 2018, and he will act as an advisor to the supervisory board throughout 2018. Van de Kraats’ four-year service agreement lasts until Dec. 31, 2019.

“Robert Jan has played a key role in the transformation of the company in the past years,” Jacques van den Broek, CEO and executive board chairman, said. “After nearly 17 years ... the company today is much larger, more prominent and in excellent shape, both operationally and financially. As a close colleague and Executive Board partner for 13 years, I want to thank him personally for his support and the value he has added to our business.’

Schirmer currently serves as VP, finance, at Unilever Europe and previously led the finance function for North America from 2012 to 2016. Before that, he was VP, finance, for Unilever Germany, Austria and Switzerland from 2008 to 2012.

“I am delighted to welcome Henry to Randstad,” Wout Dekker, chairman of the supervisory board, said. “With his financial expertise and great international track record he can lead Randstad into the next phase of growth. Schirmer will work alongside van de Kraats to ensure a smooth and effective transition.”
