Online job ads fall, slowdown ‘widespread’

July 06, 2016

US online job ads fell by 226,700 in June to approximately 4.66 million, following a larger drop in May, according to The Conference Board’s report on online job ads.

“The losses in the first quarter of 2016 have been followed with even larger losses in the second quarter,” said Gad Levanon, chief economist, North America, at The Conference Board. “The 2016 slowdown in demand has been widespread, affecting virtually all states and MSAs.”

Only one of the 10 largest online job categories posted increases in June; food preparation and serving-related ads increased by 3,300 to a total of 248,000.

Computer and mathematical science posted the largest loss, down by 34,800 to a total of 512,900, followed by office and administrative support ads, which fell by 33,100 to 488,300.
