Online job ads fall by 360,200 in February, methodology under review

March 08, 2017

US online job ads fell by 360,200 in February to about 4.5 million, according to The Conference Board’s report on online job ads.

February data incorporates the annual revisions to data. In addition, The Conference Board reported the data series has experienced a declining trend in the number of online job ads that may not reflect broader trends in the US labor market. Based on changes in how job postings appear online, The Conference Board is reviewing its methodology to ensure accuracy and alignment with market trends.

All of the 10 largest online job categories posted decreases in February. The healthcare practitioners and technical category posted the largest decrease, down 48,600 to a total of 584,100, followed by office and administrative support ads, which lost 43,800 ads for a total of 481,600.

Business and financial operations lost the fewest ads — down by 9,600 to a total of 273,000 — followed by education, training, and library ads, which fell by 16,000 to total of 151,300.
