Online job ads fall by 115,300 in November, prior month’s gain offset

November 30, 2016

US online job ads fell by 115,300 in November to more than 4.73 million, according to The Conference Board’s report on online job ads. The November loss offsets the gain in October of 116,100 online job ads.

“With a pattern of monthly gains followed by losses, online demand has shown little movement in the second half of 2016,” said Gad Levanon, chief economist, North America, at The Conference Board. “The current data clearly indicate that 2016 will end with a large loss for the year.”

Nine of the 10 largest online job categories posted decreases in November. Computer and mathematical science ads posted the largest decrease, down 27,700 to a total of 501,100, followed by sales and related ads, which lost 24,300 ads for a total of 461,800.

Food preparation and serving related ads increased by 1,000 to 246,300.
