North Dakota posts lowest jobless rates in September; Colorado and Hawaii close behind

North Dakota posted the lowest unemployment rate among all states in September at 2.4%, the US Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Colorado and Hawaii followed at 2.5% each.

Alaska recorded the highest jobless rate among all states at 7.2% in September.

The BLS reported unemployment rates fell in September in 11 states and rose in four states.

The national unemployment rate declined by 0.2 percentage point from August to 4.2% and was 0.7 point lower than in September 2016.

Hurricane Harvey had no discernible effect on the employment and unemployment data for September, according to the BLS.
