More than 8,000 gig economy drivers fail state’s background checks (Boston Globe)

April 06, 2017

In Massachusetts, more than 8,000 drivers for human cloud, ride-sharing firms Uber and Lyft were taken off the road after failing a new state background check, the Boston Globe reported. The number represents 11% of drivers. The human cloud firms are limited by state law to checking just the last seven years of an applicants’ history, but the state’s new background checks, effective as of January, are more stringent.
