(US$ thousands) Q2 2018 Q2 2017 % change
Revenue $44,894 $35,086 28.0%
Gross profit $10,892 $7,077 53.9%
Gross margin 24.3% 20.2%

Mastech’s data and analytics services segment contributed $6.1 million of revenue during the second quarter; it acquired the business with its acquisition in July 2017 of the services division of InfoTrellis Inc. However, revenue growth in the segment was affected by the “inherent lumpiness in this project-based business,” according to the company.

Net income jumped in the second quarter. Selling, general and administrative expenses were reduced by $1.5 million during the second quarter as a result of a $9.1 million contingent consideration liability related to the InfoTrellis acquisition; a $140,000 reduction in contingent transaction fees; and a $7.7 million impairment charge associated with the carrying amount of goodwill related to the InfoTrellis acquisition.
