How important is age when being a manager? A Workmonitor Survey by Randstad found that 84% of workers say the age of their direct manager is not important as long as the manager is inspirational. However, 76% of workers surveyed said they prefer their direct managers to be the same age or older.
Younger workers may see more value in a tenured manager with 92% of workers aged 25 to 34 saying they would rather have an older boss.
When it comes to colleagues, 90% of respondents prefer having colleagues of different ages and say the variety is mutually beneficial.
The Workmonitor survey includes workers in 34 countries with a minimum sample size of 400 interviews per country. The survey took place between April 23 and May 14, 2018.
