Lyft, Didi Kuaidi roll out global service

April 12, 2016

Human cloud ride-sharing platform Lyft and China-based Didi Kuaidi, which ranks as the second-largest online work services firm and is the largest provider of ride-hailing services in China, will launch a cross-platform service that lets Lyft customers use their Lyft app in China and Didi Kuaidi customers use their app service in the US, according to media reports.

The two firms first announced the partnership in September, when Didi Kuaidi invested $100 million in Lyft.

TechCrunch reports the firms will launch a public beta for Americans traveling to China. Lyft and GrabTaxi will also soon launch cross-platform services for Southeast Asians traveling to the US and Americans traveling to Southeast Asia.

“What we really are pretty excited about is turning our app into a platform. The infrastructure to enable interoperability between our partner companies is in place, which means the cost to onboard new companies will become lower and lower,” Lyft senior product manager Vishay Nihalani told Fortune. “That actually allows us to enable a network of transportation all across the globe.”
