Koya Leadership Partners acquires Boston-based search firm

July 10, 2018

Newburyport, Mass.-based Koya Leadership Partners, a retained executive search firm serving the nonprofit sector, acquired Boston-based Commongood Careers.

Commongood Careers operates nationally and targets talent from the manager level up to the C-suite at smaller to midsize nonprofit organizations. Its clients include GreenLight Fund, Center for Effective Philanthropy, New Profit, Tipping Point and others.

The transaction closed June 29; terms were not disclosed.

Commongood will integrate into the Koya brand but its suite of search services will remain. Co-founder and CEO Cassie Scarano will join Koya as managing director. Six employees — and a Boston office — also came to Koya with the deal.

The two firms have been “friendly partners” in the executive search space for nearly 15 years, referring business to one another, according to Katie Bouton, founder and CEO of Koya.

“Commongood Careers is well-known and respected for providing customized attention and for serving as true partners to mission-driven clients,” Bouton said. “Under the leadership of CEO and co-founder Cassie Scarano, Commongood Careers has a strong commitment to social change and a deep knowledge of the nonprofit sector. There’s a powerful alignment between our two firms’ services and our collective focus on long-term success of the sector through talent.”

Commongood also brings its LeaderLink program to the firm. Developed in partnership with the Robin Hood Foundation, LeaderLink recruits and selects senior-level leaders from the private sector for a training program, with the intention to transition them to leadership roles within the nonprofit sector. The program, which is currently in place in New York City, may expand to other markets as Koya puts additional resources toward growing its talent pipeline.

Koya ranked on SIA’s list of fastest-growing staffing firms last year.
