August 23, 2016

Kelly Services Inc. (NASD: KELYA) and Temp Holdings Co. Ltd. launched a $10 million venture capital fund for startups targeting India’s human resources market.

The fund will invest at least $298,000 per start-up, and it will focus on startups engaged in recruitment services, HR information systems, learning management, assessments, employee analytics and engagement, and payroll among other things.

“Globally, the staffing industry is a $400 billion industry out of which $180 billion is contributed by the US domestic market alone,” said Kamal Karanth, managing director, Kelly Services India. “The Indian HR market is about $10 billion-plus, including all technology platforms, and growing rapidly. We are looking out for start-ups harnessing complex algorithms, predictive analytics, patented platforms and other digital technologies that can enhance the human resources productivity.”

Kelly and Temp Holdings, a Japan-based staffing firm, already have a joint venture in place and recently expanded it. The joint venture is based in Singapore.
