Judge lets IC misclassification case against GrubHub proceed (Ars Technica)

June 30, 2017

A judge allowed an independent contractor lawsuit against GrubHub to go forward, and it could now go to trial this fall, Arstechnica reported. The case “was initially brought as a proposed class-action but was not certified — leaving the single plaintiff to file claims under a state law known as the Private Attorneys General Act,” according to Ars Technica. “The PAGA can result in high financial penalties for violations of the law, but it only applies to employees, not contractors.”
