Judge approves $7.5 million settlement in Uber background-check case (Courthouse News Service)

July 06, 2017

Courthouse News Service reports US District Judge Edward Chen, despite earlier misgivings about the amount, gave final approval to a $7.5 million class action settlement between human cloud firm Uber and a class of former drivers who claim they were booted from the app based on illegal background checks. Chen said $7.5 million is just a fraction of what the drivers could have seen had the case gone to trial, where Uber stood to lose between $100 million and $1 billion.
