International Monetary Fund sees weakest growth in global economy in more than 30 years (CNBC)

April 11, 2023

The International Monetary Fund today forecast the weakest growth expectations for the global economy in more than 30 years, CNBC reported. It’s expecting global growth of 2.8% this year and 3% in 2024, slightly below previous estimates published in January. “The world economy is not currently expected to return over the medium term to the rates of growth that prevailed before the pandemic,” according to the fund. Looking at just the US, the IMF sees the economy expanding by 1.6% this year. However, it sees the UK contracting by 0.3%. Inflation is not expected to return to target levels before 2025.
