Human cloud firm Care.com expands benefit program for gig workers

September 14, 2016

Human cloud firm Care.com, which connects caregivers to families, announced today an expansion a benefit program for its gig workers. The New York Times reports it’s one of the earliest moves to bring employee benefits to Gig Economy workers.

Care.com initially started its benefits program in January, and offered caregivers access to medical and dental insurance plans.

Under the benefits program expansion announced today, Care.com will direct a percentage of transactions on its site into “Care Benefit Bucks” for caregivers. Once caregivers earn $15 in Care Benefit Bucks, they can redeem them for prepaid cards that can be used to pay doctor co-pays, health insurance premiums, drug store purchase, bus passes, gas or education.

Caregivers can earn up to $500 annually in Care Benefit Bucks.
