Human cloud apps aim to fill restaurant jobs, but some have concerns (The Globe and Mail)

July 16, 2018

Staffy and other online staffing apps in Canada aim to help solve restaurants’ labor difficulties, The Globe and Mail newspaper reported. Staffy started in 2015 and now has 5,000 workers and 1,000 business clients in Toronto, Vancouver and New York. Workers are treated as independent contractors. “We pay a little more, but we don’t have to worry about people not showing up,” one restaurant owner told the newspaper. However, some have raised concerns about the impact on workers.
