May 28, 2019

Former Uber Technologies Inc. (NYSE: UBER) CEO and first employee, Ryan Graves, stepped down from the board at the human cloud, ride-sharing firm. Separately, online staffing platform Upwork (NASDAQ: UPWK) announced a new chief marketing officer and the addition of an executive from Robert Half International Inc. (NYSE: RHI).

  • Graves stepped down from Uber’s board effective Monday, according to the SEC filing released on Friday. “Ryan was one of the key people who helped shape Uber into the company that it is today. As a thoughtful and engaged director, Ryan has continued to add value to Uber, offering insights and judgements that have helped us navigate the ups and downs of the business as we have grown over the past decade,” Chairman Ron Sugar said in a statement. “While this is a bittersweet moment, we accept his personal decision that this is the right time for him to step down.”
  • Upwork promoted Hayden Brown to chief of marketing and product officer; Brown had served as senior VP of product and design. Upwork also announced that Lars Asbjornsen joined the company as senior VP of marketing. Asbjornsen previously was with Robert Half International, leading its online presence, digital marketing and demand generations program as well as major online candidate sourcing efforts.
