Government takes aim at mismatched Social Security numbers (Bloomberg BNA)

The US Social Security Administration will start sending “no-match” letters to employers when information submitted on tax forms doesn’t line up with records, a practice that’s been dormant for six years, Bloomberg BNA reported. Employers that don’t correct the information on the tax forms could be subject to Internal Revenue Service penalties, and the letters have been viewed as evidence that a particular worker could be an undocumented immigrant using someone else’s Social Security number in order to work.
