Former AMN CEO's new firm acquires healthcare staffing provider

August 18, 2017

American Health Staffing Group Inc. today announced it acquired Expedient Medstaff LLC, a travel nurse staffing provider based in the Detroit area. Executive chairman of American Health Staffing Group is Steve Francis, co-founder and former CEO of AMN Healthcare Inc. (NYSE: AHS).

Terms of the deal were not publicly released. Expedient was founded in 2007, and C. Mike Emery, a registered nurse, is its CEO.

“We are thrilled to welcome Mike and his team to AHSG,” said Mark Smith, CEO of American Health Staffing Group. “They have built a remarkable business in an attractive segment of healthcare staffing that is well-positioned to scale rapidly with AHSG’s shared resources.”

American Health Staffing Group is based in Edmond, Okla., and is a portfolio company of BelHealth Investment Partners LLC, a New York-based private equity firm with a focus on healthcare. BelHealth had acquired the company in October 2016, and American Health Staffing Group’s focus is on both organic growth and the pursuit of add-on acquisitions.

Today’s announcement follows American Health Staffing Group’s acquisition in May of Thaxton Barabe, a provider of interim healthcare leadership staffing based in Portland, Ore.
