Forecasters increase estimates of GDP growth in US

Forecasters increased their estimates for growth in US gross domestic product for this year as well as for 2018 and 2019, according to the first-quarter edition of the Survey of Professional Forecasters released today by the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia.

For the full year 2017, forecasters now expect GDP to increase by 2.3%, up from an earlier forecast of 2.2%.

Looking to 2018, forecasters raised their projected increase in GDP to 2.4% from an earlier survey’s estimate of 2.1%. They did likewise with 2019, raising their projection of GDP growth to 2.6% from the previous estimate of 2.1%.

The forecasters also raised their estimate for job growth in 2017. They now estimate the US will add 180,300 jobs per month in 2017, up from the previous forecast of 173,600 jobs per month.
