November 10, 2020

This week’s Staffing Word of the Week is “engineering/design staffing.” The US engineering temporary staffing segment generated $8.8 billion in revenue in 2019, and $6.4 billion of that revenue was generated by 26 firms, according to the “Largest Engineering Staffing Firms in the US: 2020 Update” released Monday by SIA.

The five largest firms in terms of 2019 temporary staffing revenue in the engineering segment are:

  1. Aerotek (Allegis Group)
  2. Modis (Adecco)
  3. Kelly Services
  4. System One
  5. NES Fircroft

SIA’s Lexicon defines engineering/design staffing as:

“Staffing of engineers, drafters, skilled technicians or architects excluding software engineers. Includes mechanical, civil, electrical, industrial, petroleum, environmental, process, design, quality and other engineers. Roughly corresponds to the US BLS’s Architecture and Engineering Occupations group and to the ISCO’s Engineering Professionals, Electrotechnology Engineers and Technicians and Associate Professionals groups.”

The Lexicon is also available free online for looking up other staffing industry terms.
