Department of Labor investigation finds misclassified workers at Mississippi security firm

June 01, 2021

The US Department of Labor announced it found 43 workers at a security company in Pearl, Mississippi, were misclassified as independent contractors and did not receive proper overtime pay.

As a result, Bullock Investigation Security LLC was required to pay $18,291 in back wages to the 43 workers, according to the department.

The misclassification was found after an investigation by the agency.

“This case and its resolution should remind employers in industries such as security and construction — where we frequently find employees misclassified as independent contractors — to review their pay practices to ensure they comply with the law,” said Wage and Hour Division District Director Audrey Hall in Jackson, Mississippi.
