Cross Country Q3 revenue rises 10% on nurse and allied staffing

November 03, 2016

Third-quarter revenue at Cross Country Healthcare Inc. (NASD: CCRN) rose 9.9% in the third quarter to $215.0 million. Nurse and allied staffing provided the growth, with that segment seeing an 18.6% increase in third-quarter revenue. Cross Country cited improved pricing in the segment and the impact of the Mediscan acquisition.

(US$ thousands) Q3 2016 Q3 2015 % change
Revenue from services $214,988 $195,692 9.9%
Gross margin 27.1% 26.3%
Consolidated net income $14,289 $5,151 177.4%

Third-quarter revenue fell in both the company’s physician staffing and other human capital management services divisions. Cross Country reported the decrease in other human capital management services was primarily the result of the sale of its education seminars business in August 2015.

Net income rose to $14.3 million from $5.2 million. The third quarter included a $7.1 million gain on derivative liability, compared to a loss of $2.9 million on the derivative liability in the third quarter of last year that was partly offset by a $1.3 million after-tax gain on the sale of a business.

Quote

“This was a strong quarter for the company with revenue, adjusted EBITDA and adjusted EPS all significantly ahead of guidance,” said President and CEO William Grubbs. “The investments and improvement initiatives we have been working on for more than three years are starting to pay off, giving us good momentum going into the fourth quarter and 2017.”
