The coronavirus situation could have a lasting negative impact on human cloud firms that use independent contractors, such as gig economy company Uber Technologies Inc., billionaire Jim Chanos told CNBC. The Covid-19 crisis and unemployment insurance being paid to drivers will highlight the fact that these companies have not paid into unemployment programs as have other firms; as such, they could come under more scrutiny.
