Candian mine operator abandons appeal, accepts largest-ever sanctions for paying US workers double (CBC)

September 28, 2018

Novia Scotia-based mining firm Kameron Coal has abandoned a court appeal and is accepting strong federal sanctions for paying US employees more than double what was initially offered to Canadians, CBC reported. The company was initially handed a C$230,000 administrative penalty and a 10-year ban on using temporary foreign workers. The sanctions were reduced late last year to a C$54,000 fine, a one-year ban and being listed on the government's violators website, which is still the largest ever handed out under the temporary foreign worker program.
