Employment in Canada surged by 634,800 jobs in March from February, according to the ADP Canada National Employment Report released today. The gains came across industries. In addition, the report noted the initially reported loss of 100,800 jobs for February in the previous report was revised upward to a gain of 271,700.

“The relaxed restrictions in some provinces have contributed to the job growth, led by trade, transportation and utilities; and leisure and hospitality leading the way,” said Nela Richardson, chief economist at ADP.

“We are continuing to keep a close watch on the service sector and those industries that require consumer contact, as their trajectory will be determined by the path of the virus and number of cases, varying restrictions, as well as changes in business practices that lead to an increased reliance on automation post-pandemic,” Richardson said.
