Canadian jobs rise by 67,200 in September

Employment in Canada rose by 67,200 jobs in September from August, a 0.4% increase on a seasonally adjusted basis, Statistics Canada reported today.

Canada added 44,100 part-time jobs and 23,00 full-time jobs. The unemployment rate was unchanged at 7.0%.

In September, more people worked in public administration, educational services, and transportation and warehousing. At the same time, employment declined in healthcare and social assistance. Self-employment increased in September.

Employment in Ontario rose by 16,200 jobs in September; full-time employment fell by 5,200 but part-time jobs rose by 21,500. Ontario’s unemployment rate fell to 6.6% in September from 6.7% in August.

British Columbia posted the lowest jobless rate among provinces at 5.7%.
