Canada adds 39,100 jobs as labor market bounces back: ADP

December 20, 2018

Employment in Canada rose by 39,100 jobs in November, according to the ADP Canada National Employment Report. The October total of jobs added was revised upward to a gain of 1,800 jobs from the previously reported loss of 23,000 jobs.

“The labor market bounced back in November,” said Ahu Yildirmaz, VP and co-head of the ADP Research Institute. “Nearly all industries showed improved job growth with trade, transportation and utilities leading the way. On the other hand, information continued the slowdown we saw last month.”

In the goods-producing sector, jobs rose by 6,400 in construction; 2,300 in natural resources and mining; and 600 in manufacturing.

Jobs in trade/transportation and utilities, which led gains in the service-providing sector, increased by 13,300 jobs, followed by gains of 7,100 in professional/business services; 4,400 in leisure and hospitality; and 3,900 jobs in education and healthcare.

On the flip side, jobs decreased by 4,100 in the information sector and edged down by 200 in finance/real estate.

The ADP Research Institute produces the report in close collaboration with Moody’s Analytics Inc. Derived from actual ADP payroll data, the report measures the change in total nonfarm payroll employment each month on a seasonally adjusted basis.
