California to get $9 million more to provide temp employment in wake of drought

February 25, 2016

The US Department of Labor awarded $9 million in incremental funding to continue temporary employment services to workers hurt by California’s historic drought.

The department in July approved a National Dislocated Worker Grant for up to $18 million with $3 million released initially to the California Employment Development Department to provide temporary employment of eligible individuals to assist with the cleanup and recovery efforts related to California’s long-term drought. The grant also provided funds for reemployment services to participants in need of assistance in finding permanent employment.

The department in November released an incremental award of $6 million, bringing the total funds awarded to $9 million. This incremental funding of $9 million brings the total National Dislocated Worker Grant funds awarded for this project to the approved $18 million threshold.
