California county posts highest average weekly wage in Q4

California’s Santa Clara County, home to Silicon Valley, posted the highest average weekly wage among all large US counties in the fourth quarter at $2,365, the US Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today.

 The 10 US counties in terms of highest average weekly wage in the fourth quarter:

  1. Santa Clara, Calif.: $2,365
  2. New York, NY: $2,212
  3. San Mateo, Calif.: $2,089
  4. San Francisco, Calif.: $2,068
  5. Suffolk, Mass.: $1,888
  6. Washington, DC: $1,7638
  7. Arlington, Va.: $1,677
  8. Fairfield, Conn.: $1,676
  9. Fairfax, Va.: $1,610
  10. Somerset, NJ: $1,563

Overall, the US average weekly wage fell 1.5% year over year in the fourth quarter. It was one of only eight declines since 1978 and the largest decline since the fourth quarter of 2011.
