Back-office software landscape: Staffing Word of the Week

June 14, 2022

There are 56 back-office software providers around the world serving the staffing industry, according to the “Global Staffing Back Office Software Landscape” released this month by Staffing Industry Analysts. Software products in this category range from end-to-end systems that also provide front- and middle-office functionality to software providers that focus specifically on back office. Many software providers also focus on a specific geographic region.

Back office is also this week’s Staffing Word of the Week. Here’s the definition of back office in SIA’s Online Lexicon:

“In a staffing context, the back office is part of the tech stack used to underpin the services of a staffing firm. It is used to create and distribute net pays and net bills (aka invoices) and to report and meet regulatory obligations which can range from payment of taxes to submission of gender balance statistics, etc. The back office is underpinned by the staffing firm’s financial systems. An HR module also captures key employee data which entails recording various entitlements such as leave types, classification conversion, visa and specific employment conditions.”

The full definition of “back office” is available in SIA’s free online Lexicon. The report, “Global Staffing Back Office Software Landscape,” is available to corporate members of Staffing Industry Analysts.
