B2C deal: Handy Technologies sells to parent company of Angie’s list

October 12, 2018

ANGI Homeservices (NASD: ANGI), the parent company of HomeAdvisor and Angie’s list, acquired Handy Technologies Inc., a B2C online work services firm that enables homeowners to hire gig economy workers to perform tasks such as home cleaning, product installation and furniture assembly. Handy was ranked as the 22nd-largest B2C human cloud platform by Staffing Industry Analysts.

The deal is subject to customary closing conditions, including regulatory approval, and is expected to close later this month.

Handy co-founder and CEO Oisin Hanrahan as well as co-founder and Chief Operating Officer Umang Dua will remain with Handy in their current roles. They will also be based out of Handy’s New York City location.

“Handy gives us a strong foothold in the gig economy space with an innovative product and infrastructure to power retailers’ in-home services offerings — this is a significant driver of the growth of the home services category and our acceleration within it,” said Chris Terrill, CEO of ANGI.

The acquisition was announced on Thursday.
