Average US weekly wage rises 7% in Q1, New York County posts highest wage

The US average weekly wage rose to $1,111 in the first quarter of 2017, up 6.6% when compared with the same quarter the prior year, the US Bureau of Labor Statistics reported.

New York County posted the highest average weekly wage among all large US counties in the first quarter at $2,954.

The 10 US counties in terms of highest average weekly wage in the first quarter:

  1. New York, NY: $2,954
  2. Santa Clara, Calif.: $2,450
  3. San Mateo, Calif.: $2,385
  4. San Francisco, Calif.: $2,264
  5. Somerset, NJ: $2,026
  6. Suffolk, Mass.: $2,016
  7. Fairfield, Conn.: $1,939
  8. Washington, DC: $1,885
  9. Arlington, Va.: $1,847
  10. Morris, NJ: $1,766

The 10 US counties with the highest year-over-year percent increases in average weekly wage in the first quarter included:

  1. McLean, Ill.: 27.8%
  2. Elkhart, Ind.: 15.1%
  3. Midland, Texas: 14.3%
  4. Benton, Ark.: 14.2%
  5. Williamson, Texas: 12.4%
  6. New Castle, Del.: 12.0%
  7. Stearns, Minn.: 11.4%
  8. Yolo, Calif.: 11.3%
  9. Washington, Ark.: 11.0%
  10. Ramsey, Minn.: 11.0%
