Average US weekly wage rises 2% in Q2, Silicon Valley county posts highest wage

The US average weekly wage rose to $989 in the second quarter of 2016, up 2.2% when compared with the same quarter the prior year, the US Bureau of Labor Statistics reported.

California’s Santa Clara County, home to Silicon Valley, posted the highest average weekly wage among all large US county areas in the second quarter at $2,252; McLean County in Illinois garnered the highest year-over-year increase at $201.

McLean County also the largest year-over-year percentage increase in average weekly wage at 21.0%.

The 10 US counties with the highest year-over-year percent increases in average weekly wage in the second quarter included:

  1. McLean, Ill.: 21.0%
  2. Elkhart, Ind.: 8.5%
  3. King, Wash.: 8.1%
  4. Washington, Ore.: 7.4%
  5. Albany, N.Y.: 7.0%
  6. Benton, Ark.: 6.5%
  7. Nassau, N.Y.: 6.4%
  8. Ingham, Mich.: 6.0%
  9. Tulare, Calif.: 5.8%
  10. Napa, Calif.: 5.0%
  11. Kane, Ill.: 5.0%

The 10 US counties in terms of highest average weekly wage in the second quarter included:

  1. Santa Clara, Calif.: $2,252
  2. San Mateo, Calif.: $1,871
  3. New York, N.Y.: $1,866
  4. San Francisco, Calif.: $1,806
  5. Washington, D.C.: $1,623
  6. Suffolk, Mass.: $1,571
  7. Arlington, Va.: $1,559
  8. Fairfield, Conn.: $1,535
  9. Somerset, N.J.: $1,508
  10. Fairfax, Va.: $1,492
