Alterna Legal, a legal staffing and placement firm based in the San Francisco Bay Area, appointed Mats Goebels as CEO, effective July 1. This is a new position within the firm, which launched in January 2015.

Goebels will guide Alterna through its next phase of development as the company continues to expand its client base.

Alterna Legal has offices in San Francisco and San Mateo, Calif., as well as an office in Springfield, Mo. It serves clients nationwide.

Goebels has more than two decades of experience as a practicing attorney both in law firms and as an in-house attorney. He most recently was general counsel of financial technology company Investment Technology Group Inc., where he built a global legal department and was a member of ITG’s executive committee. Prior to ITG, he worked as a corporate attorney in the New York offices of Sullivan & Cromwell and Weil Gotshal & Manges.
