Opportunity for growth is the top factor for recent graduates when evaluating potential roles, according to the annual “What the Class of 2019 Wants” report released by staffing firm LaSalle Network. Work-life balance and compensation followed as the second and third most important factors, respectively.

Respondents expect to earn a promotion one to two years after they start.

The survey also found that 60% of the graduating seniors surveyed are willing to take a temporary or temp-to-perm position, up 16% from last year’s research.

Company culture was the most important factor when evaluating a company to work for, followed by benefits and location, respectively.

On average, respondents expect to earn $51,000 to $60,000 in their first job out of college. Of the 24% of graduates who already accepted employment prior to graduation, 11% will earn less than expected, 44% will earn more than expected and 45% will earn the same as expected.

The survey included more than 3,000 soon-to-be college graduates. It was conducted in February 2019.
