Michael Schultz joined Staffing Industry Analysts (SIA) in March 2022 as a research analyst, providing dedicated coverage of industrial staffing. Schultz’s duties expanded to include coverage of the Canadian staffing industry, managing the Staffing Industry Benchmarking Consortium Survey, and several smaller reports such as the Staffing Executive Compensation Analysis as well as SIA’s monthly US Jobs Report articles. In 2024, Schultz was promoted to the role of economist, applying his professional and academic background to expand the range of analysis offered by SIA, such as publishing on the changing business cycle dynamics of the staffing industry. Prior to joining SIA, Schultz worked as an economist for 10 years at the Center for Automotive Research, an automotive industry nonprofit think tank. Schultz’s automotive work covered topics ranging from corporate taxation and international trade policy to the impacts of consumer incentives and charging infrastructure expansion on electric vehicle adoption. His work was quoted in national and international press as well as shaped business strategy and public policy for multinational enterprises, industry associations, and also local, state, provincial and national governments. Schultz has a Master of Arts in economics from Eastern Michigan University and a Bachelor of Arts in international relations from Michigan State University’s James Madison College. His graduate-level academic work focused on econometric methods as well as the analysis of state and local economic development programs. His undergraduate work focused on international political economy and international conflict.
