World – Adecco Group investigating serious data breach

The Adecco Group has reportedly suffered a data breach. According to Cyber News, a user on a popular hacking forum was allegedly selling the stolen credentials from six South American countries for the Adecco Group.
The database for sale contained 5 million records from Peru, Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Chile and Ecuador.
Soon after the post was published, it was taken down by the author. It is unclear why the post was removed though one implication could be that the data was successfully sold. According to Cyber News, this incident appears to be from the same threat actor behind recent VPN leaks that saw cybercriminals trade three databases which contained user credentials and device data from three different VPN services.
Allegedly, the database contains candidates’ personal data (name, date of birth, country, gender, marital status), email and log in information.
The Adecco Group commented exclusively to Staffing Industry Analysts, “We have become aware of a potential data incident in some countries in South America and are working with our IT security experts to investigate the matter. We take our commitment to data security very seriously.”
In 2019, the Adecco Group was hit by a breach which compromised the biometric data of some 2,000 employees of its Belgian unit.
