IT services giant Wipro reported that shareholders agreed on May 29 to have the company pay former CEO and Managing Director Thierry Delaporte US$4.3 million in cash, according to a regulatory filing.

Delaporte resigned as CEO and managing director on April 6. He had begun with the company as CEO and managing director in July 2020. The company’s new CEO and managing director is Srinivas Pallia.

Wipro reported, “The payment is proposed to be made in recognition of Mr. Delaporte’s contributions in driving significant transformation at Wipro during his tenure as chief executive officer and managing director and with a view to enable a smooth transition, ensure business continuity and to ensure adherence to post-engagement obligations (including, but not limited to, confidentiality, non-solicitation, non-disparagement and other obligations).”

The Economic Times noted that 10.3% of shareholders had opposed providing the cash compensation to Delaporte, who was the highest-paid CEO in India’s IT industry.
