US reaches annual H-1B caps

The US has received enough petitions for H-1B visas to reach the Congressionally mandated annual caps, the US Citizenship and Immigration Services announced Dec. 2.
H-1B visas are available for workers in specialty occupations that require a bachelor’s degree or higher.
The visas are capped at 65,000 under their regular cap and at 20,000 for workers with advanced degrees from US universities.
USCIS said it will continue to accept and process petitions that are otherwise exempt from the cap. It will also continue to accept and process petitions to extend the amount of time a current H-1B workers may remain in the US, change the terms of employment for current H-1B visas holders, allow H-1B workers to change employers and allow current H-1B holders to work in additional H-1B positions.
