The majority of workers in the UK (75%) who were surveyed by AI training provider AI Quest said they do not fully grasp how to effectively use AI in their roles.

The survey, which polled 2,000 workers in the UK, found that 74% expressed one of several concerns about using AI at work, including a lack of experience and feelings of anxiety.

Meanwhile, despite 89% expressing an interest in learning how to integrate AI into their work if training were more engaging and accessible, employer support is lacking, the survey showed. Less than half of respondents (40%) say they have received no AI training at all. Among those who have, 23%, said it fell short of their expectations, while 17% found it basic.

Further data showed that 60% of the respondents said they would benefit from training that was either hands-on or covered real-world applications of AI, while17% said they sought either more incentivised or gamified learning experiences to enhance their understanding and use of AI tools.

Peer-to-peer learning emerged as a promising approach to navigating the adoption of AI in the workplace, the survey found. According to the findings, 24% of workers feel motivated to enhance their own AI skills by observing their colleagues’ proficiency. However, the growing expertise among peers also poses challenges, with 13% of employees reporting feelings of intimidation or being overwhelmed by the high expectations set by their coworkers’ advanced AI capabilities.
