Toothio, a dental staffing platform, announced a $5 million funding round on Oct. 30 along with an expansion of its operations into several new markets. Toothio’s total funding is $10 million to date.
The company has a vetted pool of more than 30,000 dental professionals and uses an algorithm to match dental workers with shifts. The company said it has added more than 15,000 dental pros this year alone.
“The additional capital will help accelerate Toothio’s expansion into new markets across the US, bolster its network of dental professionals and industry partners, and support the continued development of its on-demand dental staffing platform,” co-founder and CEO Ian Prendergast said in a note to SIA.
Toothio also said it is expanding into new markets including San Jose, California, Chicago, Los Angeles, Seattle and Baltimore.
The funding round was led by nvp capital and Craft Ventures.
Toothio was founded in 2021 to tackle the labor gap in the dental industry.
“Ninety-five percent of dentists report difficulties recruiting and retaining qualified dental hygienists and office staff,” Prendergast said. “The Covid-19 pandemic further exacerbated the issue, with nearly 4% of dental hygienists leaving the industry altogether.”
