Temporary employment in Germany falls 10.5% in July

The number of workers in temporary employment across Germany fell by 10.5% in July 2024 when compared to July 2023, according to data from the Federal Employment Agency (Bundesagentur für Arbeit or ‘BA’).

The Agency had published figures (in German) for employees subject to social insurance contributions in the temporary employment sector in July.

Compared to the previous month, the number of temporary workers increased slightly by 0.4%.

Further labour market figures from the Federal Employment Agency (BA) and the General Association of Personnel Service Providers (GVP) showed that the number of unemployed in September fell by 66,000 compared to the previous month, to 2.806 million.

Compared to the previous year, the number of unemployed increased by 179,000.

The increases compared to the previous year are primarily a result of the tense economic situation, the agency stated.

At the same time, the unemployment rate fell by 0.1% to 6.0% in September when compared to the previous month.

Meanwhile, In September, 696,000 job vacancies were reported to the BA, 65,000 fewer than a year ago. Employment fell by 21,000 to 46.15 million people in August compared to July. However, it is 136,000 higher than last year.
