The number of temporary workers in France decreased by 8.4% in May 2024 compared to the same period a year ago, according to the latest Prism’emploi barometer.
The 8.4% rate fell by 1.0% when compared to that of the previous month (April: -7.4%). This places the average change for the first five months at a decline of 7.3%.
“This trend must nevertheless be interpreted with caution, as the positioning of public holidays in May 2024 was particularly unfavorable to activity,” Prism’emploi stated in a press release.
Temporary work decreased in all sectors in May. Temporary employment is decreasing in transport (-4.2%), services (-6.1%), trade (-6.5%), industry (-10.0%) and construction (-12.1%) on a year-on-year basis.
By qualification level, temporary employment is decreasing among managers and intermediate professions (-4.1%), employees (-7.9%), skilled workers (-8.8%) and unskilled workers (-9.4%).
By geography, all regions recorded year-on-year decreases with the smallest decline in Provence Alpes Cote d’Azur (-1.8%) and the steepest decrease in Centre-Val de Loire.
